Buying games

Official store or key reseller?

When you buy from Steam, Epic or GOG, the publisher gets paid and the store handles refunds. A key reseller sells an activation key it got somewhere else. You still play the game on the same launcher, and it's often cheaper.

  • Check the key's region before you buy.
  • Read the reseller's refund policy, since the official store can't help with a reseller key.
  • Be careful with open marketplaces, where anyone can list keys.

Is this sale actually good?

A big percentage off doesn't always mean a low price. Some games go on sale every few weeks, and some list prices change before a sale starts.

  • Compare today's price with the game's lowest price in the past year.
  • Watch for seasonal sales, which often bring the deepest cuts.

Does Steel Games sell games?

No. We show you where a game is cheapest and send you to that store. You pay the store directly, the same way you normally would.

Is it free?

Yes. The website, the app and the Discord server are all free.

How does Steel Games make money?

Some store links pay us a small commission when you buy, at no extra cost to you. Every link is labeled, and the free app shows ads.

What is a "resold key"?

A code for a game sold by a third-party site instead of the official store. It's often cheaper, but refunds go through that site, not the official store. We always label these.

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse prices and gear without one. An account lets you set price alerts, earn points, write reviews and chat.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Account, then Delete account. It removes your profile, posts and points for good.

What we collect

You can browse Steel Games without an account. We never ask for or store payment details.

Steel Games accounts

If you create an account, we store your email address, your username and what you post. Reviews, chat messages and comments are public under your username. If you upload a receipt to become a Verified Buyer, only our moderators can see it. You can delete your posts at any time, and you can delete your whole account in the app under Account → Delete account, which permanently removes your profile, posts, reviews, receipts and points.

Links to stores and retailers

Some links on Steel Games are affiliate links. When you follow one, the store or retailer may use cookies to record that you came from Steel Games so we can earn a commission if you make a purchase. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you leave Steel Games.

Advertising

Steel Games is free because it shows ads and sponsored spots. Sponsored spots are always labeled. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or visit aboutads.info to opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies.

The Steel Games app

  • Purchases happen on the store's or retailer's own website. Steel Games never sees your card or payment details.
  • Price alerts and wishlists are used only to send you the notifications you set up.
  • The free version shows ads, and ad providers may use device identifiers as described in their own policies.
